Here is a great site called Tricks of the Trade. Which trade? Any of them. Contributors from all walks of life such as Traveller, Recycler, Guitarist, Hitchhiker, Gardener, Researcher, Bartender, Investor, Travel Writer, Office Worker have all made recent entries.
Here are some interesting tips you can find there:
Singer: “People often get into trouble singing Happy Birthday because they don’t know what key to sing it in, and often start too high. It helps to remember that the first note in Happy Birthday is the lowest note in the song.”
Interrogator: “When interrogating someone, first ask questions you already know the answers to and observe their behavior as they reply. Specifically look at the eyes when they are recalling factual information, such as birth date, previous address, etc. Ask enough of these questions to establish a behavioral norm.
Then move into unknown areas. Look for contrasts in the subject’s behavior, especially the eyes. If the eyes move to the opposite side of the head, this indicates the subject is creating an answer for you. It doesn’t mean it’s a lie though – it could just be an opinion. Choose your questions carefully.”
Misc.: “When you get a new credit card, place a piece of transparent tape over the magnetic strip. The strip will still be readable since it is magnetic, and the tape prevents the strip from getting scratched or rubbed off.”
